"Throw Rock At" by Adam Ferner The Lavender room is a room. When play begins: say "[italic type]IT'S THE LAVENDER ROOM. IN PLATFORM. HUH. YOU WERE EXPECTING SOMETHING A BIT MORE... FANTASY? WHATEVER. YOU'RE HERE NOW. YOU MAY AS WELL SEE WHAT'S GOING ON." The player carries trainers. The player carries t-shirt. The player carries jeans. The description of the trainers is "Woah. Nike Air VaporMax. Nice.[paragraph break]While looking at your feet you notice that the floor is looking... not-normal?" The description of the t-shirt is "Blue. Cotton. There's a chocolate stain on the back, but you can't see that. Because it's on your back." The description of the jeans is "Jeans. These are common enough not to need a description." The Lavender room is a room. "You are standing in the middle of the Lavender Room, which looks exactly how it usually looks. There is a folded table in the corner. And a chair. The parquet floor is slightly scuffed. It's all very... normal. Outside, you can see the Hornsey Road, which is also totally normal. At the southend of the Lavender room is a normal-looking door that leads to the Main-hub. The Main-hub is almost certainly normal as well." A rock is here. "You see a small, lumpy rock in the middle of the floor." The description of the rock is "It's a rock. Possibly metamorphic? Igneous? Who knows. Oh and it's lumpy. A small, lumpy rock. This rock is VERY NORMAL." [throwing and hitting] The futile to throw things at inanimate objects rule is not listed in the check throwing it at rules. A thing can be hard or soft. A thing can be fragile or strong. Shape is a kind of value. The shapes are round, flat, and linear. A thing has shape. Check throwing it at (this is the block juggling rule): if the player is carrying the second noun, say "Ummmm it would be difficult to throw at something you are yourself holding." instead. Check throwing it at (this is the avoid throwing things into themselves rule): if the second noun is within the noun, say "That would be a nice magic trick." instead. The block throwing at people rule is listed instead of the block throwing at rule in the check throwing it at rules. This is the block throwing at people rule: if the second noun is a person, say "Yeahhh that might be construed as an attack." instead. Carry out throwing it at (this is the check aerodynamics rule): if the noun is flat: move noun to location; say "[The noun], unwieldy, flutters to the ground."; rule succeeds. Carry out throwing it at (this is the contact rule): say "[The noun] hits [the second noun] and it explodes in a shower of tiny, dusty fragments. Great work. No, really. [italic type]Well done. [roman type]Another harmless object totally obliterated.[paragraph break]" Instead of throwing rock at door: say "No. You've gone too far this time. What's this poor door ever done to you? Besides, you know with an unshakeable certainty that nothing will happen. Either the door is protected by a magical aura or it's important for the mechanics of the game that it remains locked and closed." Instead of throwing rock at table: say "The table explodes in a shower of tiny, dusty fragments. Are you happy? Eh? That table had a family. It had brothers and sisters and little baby coffee tables. [italic type]I hope you're proud of yourself." Instead of throwing rock at floor: say "This line of inquiry feels like it has... potential. Is there a particular area of the floor you intend to target with your trusty rock?" Instead of throwing rock at trap-door: say "Oho! Your unassuming rock hits the trap-door, which explodes in a shower of tiny, dusty fragments to reveal the entrance to a dark and dingy staircase. It leads downwards. This is possibly the furthest thing from normal you have so far encountered.[paragraph break]...Unfortunately, any hopes you may have entertained to descend aforementioned staircase are frustrated by the fact that this is just a test that Adam wrote in his lunch-break. Sooooo WELL DONE! You've reached the end of the game!" The normal-looking door is a door. The normal-looking door is south of the Lavender room and north of the Mainhub. The description of the normal-looking door is "You're familiar with doors. This one isn't any different to the ones you've seen before. Through the window you can see the Main-hub. Nobody seems to be about. If you wanted to attract anyone's attention you're out of luck." The normal-looking door is scenery. The normal-looking door is openable. The normal-looking door is locked. The floor is here. "Gosh, you're really being thorough, aren't you? It's the floor, okay? It stops you falling.[paragraph break]...However, your attention to detail has paid off. You notice a strange marking cross-cutting the grain of the parquet wood." The floor is scenery. The marking is here. "Okay. Now it kinda feels like you're onto something. Something NOT normal. The floor is etched with thin lines in the shape of a square. Could this be some kind of secret entrance, dare we say TRAP-DOOR?" The marking is scenery. The trap-door is here. "Maybe it's a trap-door. Maybe it's just a drawing of a trap-door in the floor. In any case, there are no obvious handles." The trap-door is scenery. The table is here. "The table is folded. Otherwise, it's a perfectly ordinary and not-at-all fantasy table. It has those little wheels at the bottom of its legs." The table is scenery. Understand "folded table" as table. Before taking the table: instead say "You can't lift that! Don't over-stretch yourself, you're just at the start of this adventure." The chair is here. "Congratulations, you're looking at a chair. It has four legs and a back and a seat and does everything a chair normally does, which is not at a lot. Oh and it's grey." The chair is scenery. Before taking the chair: instead say "Really? Where are you going to keep this chair of yours? No. Just... no." The Hornsey Road is here. "Nothing special. Just the Hornsey Road doing its thing. There's no one out there, so you can't call for help... not that you need to call for help. Because everything here is TOTALLY NORMAL." The Hornsey Road is scenery. The Main-hub is a room. Outside is the Main-hub.
